This morning we have informal interim presentation.
Before class Fay had a quick look at what I had printed off (the compositions I had been doing the night before). She suggested that I still needed to inject more red/pink.
Then at interim - it was encouraging that my peers looked at the compositions I had done and were starting to get closer to my theme. The words that were mentioned were "sunsets", and people also suggested "romance" and that their cues for that feeling were the rose and the silhouette of the couple.
We then had a lectorial on grids.
"orgnaisation makes a system of many appear fewer" - John Maeda
3 types of grid: Manuscript - simplest - 1 column per page - interesting margins
3 types of grid: Column - can be simple or interesting depending on no. of columns
3 types of grid: Modular - example of newspaper
GRIDS provide frameworks to organise a page and create unity.
VISUAL HIERARCHY - In Western society top/left has more hierarchy than bottom/right.
Things to think about:
- white/empty space
- symmetry/asymmetry
- grouping
- Vignelli
- Muller Brockmann
- Wim Crouwell
After class I continued mulling through some composition work.

And brainstormed some styles/ideas to try
