Last night I went to my fourth location - the Lighthouse Cinema Cuba.
It was good to go and get the opinion of others (friends) as well as they told me it was a really cosy cinema and a very romantic outing.
Again, I filled in an a4 page documenting the main points we made that night.
This morning I have also been looking into the artists that were suggested to us in the Grids lectorial on Tuesday.
Vignelli:
Vignelli worked in a wide variety of areas, including interior design, environmental design, package design, graphic design, furniture design, and product design. He also published a book "From A to Z", beginning with the intriguing 'A for Ambiguity', it continues through the alphabet, describing their approach to subjects as diverse as book design, discipline, furniture, garment design, interior design and lighting, newspapers, packaging and typography; each subject is discussed in detail and accompanied by numerous illustrations that complement the text. It offers a rare insight into the minds of two exceptional modernist designers. Vignelli's designs were famous for following a minimal aesthetic and a narrow range of typefaces that Vignelli considered to be perfect in their genre, including Bodoni, Helvetica, Garamond No. 3 and Century Expanded. He wrote that, "In the new computer age, the proliferation of typefaces and type manipulations represents a new level of visual pollution threatening our culture. Out of thousands of typefaces, all we need are a few basic ones, and trash the rest."
Josef Muller-Brockmann:
Josef Muller-Brockmann is recognised for his simple designs and his clean use of typography (notably Akzidenz-Grotesk), shapes and colours which inspire many graphic designers in the 21st century. He was author of several books on design and visual communication.
Wim Crouwel:
Wim Crouwel is recognized for his love of grids and typographic systems to create dynamic, experimental work.
